Why won't my son talk to me?
MsWientzen February 06, 2009 5:45 AM

My teen doesn't talk to me about his life and I want to know what is going on with him. Is this normal?

What is normal is that Teens do start to pull away and develop their own lives; but that doesn't mean communication has to stop completely. Participate in your teens life...Show up to athletic games, school meetings, etc... And most of all HAVE FUN with your teen...Learn to speak your teens language and then let them share with you after you have participated in life together. This is an excellent time to improve your listening skills as a parent, and know that teens often communicate volumes thru their behavior and not always their words. Further, teens often tell me that they think their parents talk down to them- so think about how you speak to them and hold them to their highest.
