Parenting has the potential to be one of the most fun and rewarding jobs on the planet. But without the right parenting tools it has the potential of being one of the most difficult jobs. Some say it is one of, if not the most important responsibility, you will ever have in your life. Unfortunately, parents receive little or no formal training in raising children.

At Families by Design, our therapists provide parenting by design training within the framework of family therapy, or as part of individual therapy. Here’s a portion of what you will learn: General parent-child interactions, effective communication tools, handling breakdowns productively, getting the results you want and more.

Parenting by design is worthwhile for every parent, in every situation. It provides you with the support and tools needed to be an effective parent and the key information the kids never came with. You will walk away feeling empowered as a parent and excited to be in team! This program will change your families lives!!!

Parents with Children with Special Needs

This three day training supports parents of special needs children with the necessary resources to have their child be as successful as possible. Our training includes guidance in the areas of behavior modification, IEP writing, funding available, transition planning for teens, proper medication and nutrition, and other resources needed in order to have parents feel fully supported and educated about the system serving their children.

Mastering IEP Writing

This one day workshop is designed to have you understand how to write an IEP in order to get all of the services you need for your child. This workshop will also teach you about your rights as a parent and how due process works. Come learn how to be an expert at getting the services your child needs.

Teen Leadership

Our teen leadership training is for teens ages 13 - 18. We work with your teen on effective ways to communicate, team building, responsibility, and many other concepts which will have them be as successful as possible as they enter into early adulthood. Our Transitions Training is for any family going through divorce or separation. The process of divorce or separation is a difficult time for the entire family. With this training you will learn the tools to divorce peacefully, prepare and support the children, co-parenting tools, and effective techniques to deal with the feelings throughout the changing situation.

Social Skills Training

This training is designed for parents and teachers who want to help empower children who struggle in their interactions with peers and adults. Many children need assistance with social skill development, including communication, problem-solving, decision making, and self-managment abilities that allow them to build and maintain relationships and friendships. This intensive one day training will provide a foundation for social skill development and useful strategies to decrease inappropriate behaviors so relationships can flourish!
